For example, electrical events in living tissue may indicate changes in one or more variables in a patient's body. The one or more variables may represent other phenomena, such as the success of a medical treatment, one or more physiological conditions, one or more diseases, one or more diagnoses, and so on. Unfortunately, accurately monitoring these events in living tissue is difficult.\nOne major problem is that the living tissue may include varying electrical properties. Because electrical properties vary from patient to patient, it is difficult to accurately isolate electrical events to particular parts of the patient's body. Moreover, the environment within a patient's body varies over time. Accordingly, the electrical properties within the patient's body also vary over time. As a result, the measurement of electrical signals in living tissue may be unreliable.\nA second problem is that it is difficult to ensure that the sensors are accurately positioned in the patient's body. In some applications, it is desirable to provide a physiological signal with accurate spatial information about the physiological process being monitored. For example, it may be desirable to know the relative position of the sensor in the body and the location of the sensed physiological event.\nTo address the foregoing problems, various techniques have been proposed. In one technique, a thin film of an implantable material is applied to the surface of a patient's body. Once the thin film has been applied, it is covered with a removable patch that holds the thin film in place.\nThe removable patch is then removed, and a sensor is provided on the thin film. The sensor is used to periodically monitor for electrical events within the body of the patient.\nIn other techniques, sensors may be directly integrated into the body or the appendage of the patient.\nUnfortunately, each of these techniques have shortcomings. For example, applying the thin film of material to the patient's body presents a number of problems. The thin film of material must be precisely applied to the skin of the patient. If the thin film is too thick, a significant amount of the electrical signal from the patient will be filtered out. If the thin film is too thin, the sensor will have less electrical contact with the patient's skin and thus produce less accurate measurements. Further, the thin film may not be as effective as would be desirable for some applications. The thin film may not be effective for some patients because of differences in skin density, skin thickness, or so on.\nThinning the thin film may not
