A single render is one HTTP call and the response body is the document.\n\nBase URL: `https://app.docmake.io/api/v1`\n\n## Quick start\n\n1. Create a free account at [app.docmake.io](https://app.docmake.io/register) and generate a key under Settings, API Keys.\n2. Set `api_key` in the environment, or in the collection variables if you forked without the environment.\n3. Run **Templates / Create template**. Its test script stores the new `tmpl_` id in the `template_id` collection variable.\n4. Run **Render / Render a document**.\n\nEvery request body, parameter rule and example response here was taken from the API source, so the validation rules and error shapes are the real ones.\n\n## Authentication\n\nEvery request needs `Authorization: Bearer dm_...`, set once at the collection level. Keys always start with `dm_`, are shown exactly once because only a SHA-256 hash is stored, and belong to a team workspace rather than to a person. The Free plan allows 2 keys, Pro is unlimited.\n\nA missing, malformed or revoked key returns 401 with `error.type` of `authentication_error`.\n\n## Always send Accept: application/json\n\nEvery request here sends `Accept: application/json`. Validation failures come back as JSON either way, so a forgotten header no longer turns a 422 into a redirect.\n\n## Rate limits and quotas\n\nThrottling is per minute, per workspace, at the plan limit: 30 requests per minute on Free, 120 on Pro, 600 on Enterprise. Every response carries `X-RateLimit-Limit`, `X-RateLimit-Remaining` and `X-RateLimit-Reset`.\n\nQuotas are separate and counted per month or per day: 1000 documents a month and 500 API calls a day on Free, 10,000 and 50,000 on Pro.\n\n## Error shapes\n\nTwo shapes, so branch on the status code first.\n\n| Shape | Where |\n| --- | --- |\n| `{\"error\": {\"type\": \"...\", \"message\": \"...\"}}` | 401, every 422, per-minute 429, render failures at 400, 500 and 503 |\n| `{\"error\": \"quota_exceeded\", \"feature\": \"...\", \"used\": 0, \"limit\": 0}` | 429 from a monthly or daily plan limit |\n\nA 422 over a rejected field carries `error.type` of `validation_error` plus an `error.details` array of `{\"field\": \"...\", \"message\": \"...\"}` entries, one per rejected field. A strict-mode render failure carries `error.type` of `missing_data` and an `error.missing` array instead.\n\nA 404 means the id does not exist in the workspace the key belongs to.
