Spokane Valley Community Advocates - SVCA was formed by two single parents who spent the last 15 years navigating the resources available for the Greater Spokane Valley area. We recognize that many times the wrong information is given, which just leads to aggravation and stress. Both of us have experienced bad landlords and learned the ins and outs of the WA Landlord/Tenant laws to fight back. We became experts at advocating for our disabled children because no one else would. I can’t count the number of times we have needed something simple, like a gas voucher, food delivered, pet food, medical equipment not covered by insurance or help with a much needed car repair (our only source of transportation for our families), and there was nothing available- at least not out here. This is a void which no other organization has chosen to fill EXCEPT US.

Sherri Gangitano is the primary founder, current Executive Director, and most importantly, Community Coordinator at Spokane Valley Community Advocates - SVCA, a charity organization hoping to fill a void in the Greater Spokane Valley area.

In addition to SVCA, Sherri has volunteered for many organizations including League of Women Voters of the Spokane Area (LWVSA) as an event organizer and co-chair of the Affordable Housing Committee; Spokane Area Tenants United (cofounder) as a community coordinator, Spokane Valley Partners working with the volunteer coordinator to organize various events and recruit volunteers; and SEIU 775 In-home Caregivers union as a local leader and recruiter. Her college education in sociology with an emphasis in juvenile justice and paraeducator, special education emphasis, helps her successfully navigate the social service world.

As a divorced mom of four kids, including one with disabilities, she understands the frustrations and difficulties in accessing the right resources while living east of the City of Spokane. Sherri has spent several years as a personal advocate for her child and family tenant advocate. She has chosen to “pay it forward” by providing the tools and resources she is familiar with and passing them onto others. Her main focus, as we recover from the pandemic, is rental assistance, emergency mutual aid (R.E.A.C.T. program) and bringing voices together to make local change.

In her spare time, she enjoys taking hikes with her dogs, camping, genealogy, berry gardening and collecting old card and board games.
