The pop star surprised everyone by announcing her tenth studio album during her acceptance speech for video of the year at the 2022 VMAs.

They definitely want her Midnights, the title of her tenth studio album, which was announced on August 28 at the 2022 Video Music Awards.
\nSwift, 32, thanked her fans by dropping a bombshell that she knew would make them very, very happy while accepting the coveted Video of the Year Moon Person award for her 10-minute “All Too Well” short film starring Sadie Sink and Dylan O’Brien (who was with Swift the entire night). “I decided that if you were so kind as to give us this…” she began, holding up the award.
\nThe pop star went on to say that she was working on a “brand new album.” This meant it wasn’t a re-recording of one of her older songs, which many fans had hoped for months. “And I’ll tell you more at midnight,” she added.
\nSwift kept her word. She attended a VMAs afterparty in a starry blue jumpsuit, and as soon as the clock struck midnight on the East Coast, she posted the album’s title, cover art, and track count on social media. She also updated her website to reflect her soon-to-be-new era, but it crashed almost immediately, most likely due to the large number of Swifties trying to access it to learn more.
\nEven though Taylor Swift’s Midnights won’t be released for a few months, just enough information has been released to keep fans entertained until then.
\nWhen Will It Happen?
\nSwift first stated in her acceptance speech for video of the year that Midnights would be released on October 21. “I thought it might be fun to tell you that my brand new album comes out on October 21,” she said.
\nShe confirmed the date in an Instagram post that night. Between then and the night Midnights arrives, there will be 53 midnights.
\nIt includes 13 songs.
Midnights will not have 12 songs, as the name suggests. Instead, there will be 13 new songs. Swift described them as “the scattered stories of 13 sleepless nights” on Instagram.
The dozen songs are divided into two groups on the album’s cover: songs one through six are on “Side A,” and songs seven through twelve are on “Side B.”

Swift posted a short summary of the album’s songs on Instagram, and oh man. Fasten your seatbelts. Midnights may be her most personal, emotional, and exposed project to date, based on what she wrote, which, if you know her work, is saying a lot.
“We lie awake in love and fear, in turmoil and tears,” she wrote about the record in two paragraphs, which were shown on a promotional photo of the pop star sitting quietly in a dark room. “We stare at the walls and drink until they respond. Midnights’ cover art is simple, clean, and “indie.”

She’s holding a lighter to her face, the flame flickering. It occupies about half of the entire cover and is surrounded by simple, off-white empty space on the top and left. The title is written in soft blue ombre letters over a photo of Swift, and the track count is written on the side.

Swift’s website was updated with information about physical copies of Midnights after the album was announced. However, fans couldn’t access the information until after midnight, when the page reopened.
The album will be available on CD, vinyl, and cassette tape. The marble-colored “blue moonstone” discs on the first two options are ideal for the theme. The vinyl will include a collectible album sleeve, a full-size gatefold photo, and an eight-page booklet containing “never-before-seen photos.” The CD set will include a 24-page photo booklet as well as unique artwork for each disc.

Aside from the moonstone discs, you could also purchase three other ethereal Midnights vinyl versions for just one week. Swift debuted the limited editions (at midnight, of course) just four days after announcing her new album. She shared a cute Instagram video of herself with three vinyls for sale on her website on Thursday (Sept. 1).
Three vinyl records are called Midnights: Jade Green Edition, Midnights: Blood Moon Edition, and Midnights: Mahogany Edition. The cover photo on each of the three vinyl cases is different, and the title and track list are written in a different color. On the inside of each of the three discs was a different marbled shade of green, orange, or brown.

If Midnights becomes the 10th No. 1 album on the Billboard 200, she will tie Barbra Streisand for the most No. 1 albums by a woman. Swift’s 11th No. 1 album would tie her with Streisand, Bruce Springsteen, and Drake for the third-most No. 1 albums since the chart’s inception in 1956. Only The Beatles (19) and Jay-Z (14) have had more than 11 number one albums.
Her discography straddles genres, and her narrative songwriting—often inspired by her personal life—has received critical praise and widespread media coverage.
