It is not the intent to cause the readers the anguish, the anguish, and the untold, untold number of deaths and human rights abuses that have led to the democratization of that country. It is no more than an attempt to tell the simple truth behind the events that took place in 1965-66. In brief, the goal is to move the Indonesian people to a clearer and more truthful view of the events that have taken place.
\nThis book has been written by Sukarni of The Borneo Post, publisher of Bogor Timur. In writing this book, Sukarni has been assisted by his wife, Kiran, as well as by several other workers at his newspaper company.
\nSukarni has been a journalist for more than two decades; thus, he has been able to learn from those who have lost their lives in the name of power. Such lessons were not initially known to him. He gained the courage to record these events from those who were abused.
\nThere are a number of people who have been of immense help to Sukarni in making this work. Four Indonesians have been especially important to him:
\nProfessor Tom Oosterbaan, a Dutch professor, has been his foremost academic advisor.
\nMrs. Meiring, a refugee from an island in West Papua, who was a refugee in Australia for eleven years, has often helped Sukarni to gather information.
\nGeraint Jones, another Australian, helped Sukarni, who is a devout Christian, to correct parts of the book.
