\nPython Pandas - iterrows() or iterrows() vs. for loop
\nI wrote a Python script which processes a group of text files (one text file per day) for training my machine learning algorithm. The algorithm takes about 3 seconds to train, and I want to speed up by writing a loop to iterate through the files, and process them in parallel.\nFirst attempt\nI was using the following code (a modification of an example I found elsewhere on SO):\nfor row in df.iterrows():\n df = df.append(df2, ignore_index=True)
\nThis takes a lot longer than I would like. I read the pandas documentation and it explains what's going on under the hood with the \n\nappend() - Append the values of a Series/DataFrame at the end of another DataFrame/Series, on the same index\niterrows() - Iterates over all rows and returns an object for each row of a DataFrame\n\nNow I could write:\nfor r in df:\n df = df.append(df2, ignore_index=True)\n \n or I could replace the for loop with:\n df.iterrows()\n \n Here, the for loop is replaced by df.iterrows(). This takes ~3 seconds to run my loop for one day.\n Second attempt\n Now I have modified the loop to use the apply() method (see example below):\n for df2 in df.T.apply(myfunction):\n df = df2\n \n Unfortunately, this does not work either, as df2 has many columns.
